Manay Po (2006)

A riotous comedy and a touching tale about love and family, the film tells the story of Luz (Cherry Pie Picache), a loving mother and wife whose life revolves around her brood of three, namely, Oscar (Polo Ravales), Orson (John Prats) and Orwell (Jiro Manio) and her live-in boyfriend Gerry (Christian Vasquez). In spite of her children’s questionable sexualities -- Oscar and boyfriend Adrian (Luis Alandy) have been in relationship for seven years, Orson who is competing for Miss Gay University is quite depressed because his best friend and love-of-his-life Arante (Mike Tan) has found a girlfriend, and Orwell is starting to feel his liking for his classmate cum best friend -- their family paints a joyful picture – a home filled with laughter and unconditional love. One day, a family crisis jolts Luz out of her seemingly perfect existence. She decides to keep it a secret from her children, wanting to shield them from any form of worry. Eventually, revelations come tumbling one after the other and Luz finds herself faced with a decision that will shape the future of her family.

MANAY PO which is an accepted gay term, meaning , SISTER is my first blog feature from the Philippines. It is funny though oftentimes exaggerated. All the male actors are hunky but all have the same "image" problem. For the sake of acting, they can't even do simple lips-to-lips probably to evade gossips and public judgment -- or -- the film is really intended for family audience. Other than that flaw, it is quite interesting.
