In Extremis (2000)

Thomas (Sébastien Roch) et Anne (Julie Depardieu), deux amis d'enfance, ont perdu leurs parents dans les glaciers des Alpes. Alors qu'Anne, après une période difficile, a su accepter la mort de ses parents, Thomas, lui, refoule cette disparition et plonge dans une autodestruction ou tous les plaisirs sont pousses a l'extreme. C'est alors que son voisin Grégoire (Jérémy Sanguinetti) perd sa mère Thomas y voit le reflet de son passé et tente d'aider le jeune garçon a surmonter cette épreuve. Ce sera aussi l'occasion pour lui de faire le deuil de son passé...

Thomas (Sébastien Roch) and Anne (Julie Depardieu) are childhood friends. Both lost their parents in the glaciers of the Alps at an early age. Whilst Ann after difficult period learned how to accept the death of her parents, Thomas remains tormented by the tragic incident and plunges to his own self-destruction or extreme pleasures. When his neighbor Grégoire (Jérémy Sanguinetti) loses his mother (who happens to be his lover), he suddenly sees the reflection of his past and tries to help the young boy overcome his ordeals. It will also be an opportunity for him to kiss goodbye to his bitter past...

IN EXTREMIS (TO THE EXTREME, internationally) is a poignant story about intense hunger for love and attention. So many feel that the static and noisy background is irritating but what they do not realise is the fact that those effects are meant to add up to the distressing and distracting feeling the lead actor is going through. A good film to my books!
