Jet Boy (2001)

A thirteen year old street hustler (Branden Nadon) searching for love hooks up with a man (Dylan Walsh) of questionable past. Gradually, a bond forms between the two, but will their old ways keep them from developing true love and respect for each other?

JET BOY may have some flaws but it is certainly a very moving film that will touch your heart. A good watch this holiday season to remind us all that we should love our neighbours... every single day in our existence.

Giorni (2001)

On the day when Claudio is supposed to move to Milan with Dario, he suddenly refuses in favour of being with Andrea whom he discovers ill of banal influence. Claudio's certainties shatter...

GIORNI (DAYS, internationally) is a stunning piece from Italy that has been misunderstood by some critiques saying that it is irresponsible and stupid. Quite the contrary, the film powerfully tells its viewers what not to do in order for them to live comfortably in the safer zone. A must-see especially to those who are not so careful... with their sexual encounters.

Trembling Before G-d (2001)

Built around intimately-told personal stories of Hasidic and Orthodox Jews who are either gay or lesbian, this unprecedented feature documentary shatters assumptions about faith, sexuality and religious fundamentalism. It portrays a group of people who face a profound dilemma on how to reconcile their passionate love of Judaism and the Divine with the drastic Biblical prohibitions that forbid homosexuality. As the film unfolds, we meet a range of complex individuals -- some hidden, some out -- from the world's first openly gay Orthodox rabbi to closeted, married Hasidic gays and lesbians to those abandoned by religious families to Orthodox lesbian high-school sweethearts. Many have been tragically rejected and their pain is raw, yet with irony, humor, and resilience, they love, care, struggle, and debate with a thousand-year old tradition.

TREMBLING BEFORE G-D is an international project with global implications that strikes at the meaning of religious identity and tradition in a modern world. For the first time, this issue has become a live, public debate in Orthodox circles, and the film is both witness and catalyst to this historic moment. What emerges is a loving and fearless testament to faith and survival and the universal struggle to belong. Certainly this film is a MUST-SEE!

Tarik El Hob (2001)

Karim, a sociology student who claims to be heterosexual, seeks amongst young Magrebinis, those who can speak openly about their homosexuality before his video camera. He meets Farid, a young and confident flight steward who is willing to answer all and volunteers to assist him in his project. During their research, Karim's behaviour becomes paradoxical: he lives with his girlfriend whilst practically falling for Farid.

TARIK EL HOB (THE ROAD TO LOVE, internationally) is a sensitive and tender docudrama about homosexuality in the Islam world. The film is exotically raw and realistically written that watching the two leads fall for each other seems to affect the viewers. Simply a must see!

Endgame (2001)

A moody, stylish and sex-charged English thriller about Tom (Daniel Newman), a rent boy who is kept by George Norris (Mark McGann), a sado-masochistic gangster. Tom is kept in high style in a London flat filled with pop art and a bedroom deco set up, not only for sex, but also for blackmail with a hidden camera focused on the red silk bedsheets. Tom is being sucked down into a nasty scheme involving drugs, money and protection by Norris' connection with a crooked gay cop Dunston (John Benfield). Things turn nasty rather quickly in this fast-paced thriller as we glimpse scenes of Tom being beaten by his boss and sent in to a bar as part of a scheme to rough up the owner. As a way to introduce some sanity into his dark and abusive life, Tom befriends a straight American couple downstairs, Max & Nikke Bergman (Corey Johnson & Toni Barry) and is invited to dinner at their flat. When Tom returns to his flat, Norris starts a jealous spat with his boy and Norris is accidentally killed whilst forcing the boy for sex.

ENDGAME is a stunning British thriller about a hunky rent-boy caught in a web of blackmail and murder. But not an ordinary rent-boy as he is clearly for the wealthy only but you will be treated of Newman's many great shots in the shower, shirtless with leather pants and in underwear. With a crisp script, clear-cut editing, a striking soundtrack and excellent acting, this film is surely one of the best gay thrillers I've seen.

Tenoch (Diego Luna) and Julio (Gael García Bernal) are two teenagers whose lives are governed by hormones and a peculiar code of friendship, synthesized in the "Charolastra Decalogue." At a wedding party, the two met Luisa (Maribel Verdu), a Spanish lady married to Tenoch's cousin. The seemingly trivial meeting will become the detonator of an adventure in which innocence, friendship and sexuality of the three lead characters come into conflict.

Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN (AND YOUR MOTHER TOO, internationally) is one unforgettable film. Truly it's about innocence, friendship and sexuality but above all, it is the revelation of three distinct human characters in depth. No wonder that both leading actors garnered acting awards and acclaim for this Mexican masterpiece.

Mauvais Genres (2001)

Bo Ancelin (Robinson Stévenin) is a young man who sees himself as a woman and falls in love with his new neighbour, Johnny (Stéphane Metzger). However, Johnny only reciprocated Bo’s advances with sarcasm and nastiness. On the other hand, Bo is the son of a notable paedophile being investigated by the authorities. They want Bo’s additional testimony to follow up the allegation he made seven years before which was kind of neglected by them. In the meantime, prostitutes are found slaughtered and mutilated, and among them, are friends or acquainted with Bo. This time Bo becomes the prime suspect which he will investigate himself to clear his name and later found out that the scrupulous murders has something to do with an incident that took place fifteen years earlier.

MAUVAIS GENRES also known as BAD GENRES, TRANSFIXED and GENDER BIAS is mainly a serial-killer thriller with minor sub-plots that are somehow related if not directly related to the main story. This Belgian-French offer which is directed well with a fine cast of actors will keep you guessing until the end. It is definitely worth your time.
